1. Question : What did Lencho hope for?
Answer : Lencho hoped a good rainfall so that his ripe corn field provide him a good harvest.
2. Question : Why did Lencho say the raindrops were like ‘new coins’?
Answer : Lencho said the raindrops were like new coins because rain would help his fields of ripe corn to produce a good harvest. A good harvest obviously would help to earn more money.
3. Question : How did the rain change? What happened to Lencho’s fields?
Answer : The rain changed into a hailstorm as strong wind began to flow with huge hailstones. All the crops in Lencho’s fields destroyed with the hailstones.
4. Question : What were Lencho’s feelings when the hailstones stopped?
Answer : Lencho became very sad and remorse when the hail stopped. All the fiowering crops were desroyed in hailstones. He felt hopeless and thought no one could heip his family and they would face hunger.

1. Question : Who or what did Lencho have faith in? What did he do?
Answer : Lencho had immense faith in God. He believed that God is everywhere and He is omnipotent. He would surely help him in his misery.
Lencho wrote a letter to God requesting him to send a hundred pesos so that he and his family survive until next crops and he could sow his fields.
2. Question : Who read the letter?
Answer : The postmaster read the letter.
3. Question : What did the Postmaster do then?
Answer : The Postmaster read the letter and became very serious of it. He got impressed with Lencho’s faith in God. He did not want to back Lencho’s heart. So he decided to collect money from his employees. He also gave a part of his salary and to Lencho on behalf of God.

1. Question : Was Lencho surprised to find a letter for him with money in it?
Answer : No, Lencho was not surprised to get money with letter on behalf of God. Lencho belived that God would help him by sending money to him.
2. Question : What made him angry?
Answer : Lencho asked for hundred pesos. But he found in the envelope that the God had sent him only seventy pesos. When Lencho counted the money , he became angry towards the God.

1. Question : Who does Lencho have complete faith in? Which sentences in the story tell you this?
Answer : Lencho has complete faith in God. The sentences which show this are –
i. But in the hearts of all who lived in that solitary house in the middle of the valley, there was a single-hope from God.
ii. All through the night, Lencho thought only of his one hope, the help of God, whose eyes, as he hasd been instructed, she everything even what is deepin one’s conscience.
iii. “God” he wrote, ” If you don’t help me , my family and i will go hungry this year”
iv. He wrote” to God” on the envelope, put the letter inside and still troubled, went to town.
v. God couldn’t heve made a mistake, nor could he have denied Lencho what he had requested.
vi. It said ” God of the money that i asked for, only seventy pesos reached me. Send me the rest since i need it very much.”
2. Question: Why does the postmaster send money to Lencho? Why does he sign the letter” God”?
Answer: The postmaster reads Lencho’s letter. He finds Lencho’s deep belief in god. He doesn’t want to break Lencho’s heart. So he collects some money from his employee and he also gives a part of his salary and finally sends it to Lecho. The postman wants Lencho’s heart not to be broken
The postmaster signs the letter as “God”, so that Lencho believes that God has helped him and maintain his faith.
3. Did Lencho try to find out who has sent the money to him? Why not?
Answer: No, Lencho did not find who had sent the money to him.
Lencho did not try to find because he beleived that only God could have sent money to him. He could not belief that no person other than God would send him the money.
4.Question: Who does Lencho think has taken the rest of the money? What is the irony in the situation?
Answer: Lencho thinks that the post office employees have taken the rest of the money because he asked for the hundred pesos from God. But he received only seventy pesos. He could not believe that God would make a mistake. So he assures that the post office employees must have taken the money.
The irony in the situation is that Lencho suspects for the post office employees, who helped him with the money when he was in trouble. But he tried to keep his faith alive in god.
5. Question: Are there people like Lencho in the real world? What kind of a person would you say he is? You may select appropriate words from the bracket( greedy, naive, stupid, ungraceful, selfish, comical, unquestioning)
Answer: Yes, there are people like Lencho in the real world. Such people has immense faith in God and thinks that God will help them in bad situations.
Lencho is a simple and hardworking farmer. He has extreme faith in God. He is very innocent. He firmly believes that God would help him in any diverse situation.
